You may wonder, what is a tailor’s bunion, or bunionette? Much like a traditional bunion, this bump develops at the base of a toe when the digit and its metatarsal become displaced from their normal positions. Instead of the big toe, however, a tailor’s bunion is the misalignment of the smallest digit, on the outside of your foot. It develops because of biomechanical issues that allow the toe to slide out of its natural place and create that bulge. Occasionally, the bump can also be a spur growing out of the joint.
As the bulge enlarges, it rubs uncomfortably against your footwear. The friction can make it difficult to wear many shoes may even make it uncomfortable to walk around as the problem progresses. You need to have the problem addressed sooner rather than later, because the deformity will only worsen with time. Early conservative treatment, however, can significantly slow its progression.
