The end of summer is in sight, and whether kids like it or not, the start of school is getting closer. It’s time to start looking at the back-to-school deals. Since children grow so rapidly, you need to pay attention to their feet and make sure they have footwear that fits after the summer. Finding the best shoes for kids is important for keeping your little one’s limbs healthy and pain free.
Fit and comfort are far more important for a growing child’s feet than fashion, so make sure you invest in footwear that will match your little one’s needs and not just the style he or she likes. Here are a few tips to help you find that perfect pair:
Measure – Have your child’s feet measured every time you look for shoes to make sure you’re choosing the right sizes. If one foot is bigger than the other, which is common, select the size based on the longer and wider foot.
Try on – Make sure your son or daughter tries on shoes to check the comfort. Footwear should be comfortable right away instead of needing an extended break-in period. There should be roughly half an inch of space between the toes and the end of the shoe. The heel shouldn’t slip out of the back, but it shouldn’t be squeezed, either.
Check the Materials – Choose shoes made from breathable leather or cloth so air can circulate around the feet. Soles should be made from substances that grip, like rubber, and have grooves for traction so your child won’t slip.
Good fit matters, whether your son or daughter is in preschool or high school. Footwear that is too tight or doesn’t have enough support can contribute to foot pain and conditions like ingrown toenails and soreness.
