Shocking Relief for Foot Pain!

Comments (0)

Happy PatientThis advanced treatment for chronic foot pain may shock you! Okay, not really—either figuratively or literally. But it is cool, and it’s something we’re very proud to be able to offer our patients. The device won’t shock you. Instead, it uses energy pulses—called shockwaves—to trigger healing in inflamed and damaged tissues.

Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) is an amazing, effective, and—best of all—non-invasive treatment that may be a solution for chronic foot pain that just won’t go away. You won’t need any medications, any injections, any needles, or any incisions. You don’t have to worry about pain during the treatment, side effects, or activity restrictions either (though there are a few pre-existing conditions that might disqualify you from the procedure). The whole procedure only takes about 10 minutes, and most injuries only need 2-3 sessions to achieve the desired results.

Here’s how it works. A small machine generates short, high-amplitude pulses of mechanical energy—the shockwaves. These travel through a cable and a pad at the end of a hand-held applicator, and from there travel into your tissues (muscles, tendons, etc.) at the point of contact.

These waves create what’s known as “micro-trauma” in your soft tissues. Essentially, they cause lots of very, very tiny injuries. That sounds like it would be a bad thing, but actually, it’s like giving your body a wake-up call! The microtrauma isn’t severe enough to hurt you or limit your activities, but it is enough to engage your cells and kick start the healing process. As a result of the therapy, your body builds new blood vessels, breaks down scar tissue, and heals much faster.

Success rates with ESWT have proven to be very good, even when it seems like nothing else has worked. We’ve found it to be an extremely valuable treatment alternative that has, in many cases, taken the place of surgery and prevented the need for more invasive procedures.

This could be the answer you’ve long awaited for your chronic foot pain. To learn more or to schedule an appointment with us in Milford or Hamden, please call (203) 876-7736 today.
