Running Motivation - How to Get Started

Comments (0)

If you had to rate your courage on a scale from 1-10 where would you land? For a select group in Old Greenwich, CT, being brave is the name of the game. The 2nd annual I Took the Plunge for Kids and Ran a 5K is taking place on January 1st 2014. A 5K run/walk will be followed by a polar plunge, with proceeds benefiting the Kids in Crisis organization.

If you are new to running, or have been sitting on the sidelines for a while, the thought of getting into it again may be just as daunting as jumping into a body of freezing water. It can be hard to muster up the motivation to do it, but that is why we have found some easy tips to help you find your running motivation. One thing you can do is pick an upcoming race, so you have a goal to strive toward. It can be motivating once you have paid a registration fee and know it is coming up – whether you like it or not. Second, find a buddy. Having a friend to run with makes it more fun, and it keeps you accountable on days where you may be tempted to opt out. Third, mix things up. The same routine every day is sure to take a bite out your motivation. Vary your route when you run outside and use the treadmill if you need a break. Last, take advantage of the technology at your fingertips. There are applications that allow you to track your pace and progress, and music on an MP3 player can make even the hardest run more enjoyable.
These are just a few ways to get started on the right foot. One thing that can prevent a great start is foot pain.
