Laser Treatment for Fungal Nails - What to Expect

Comments (0)

Would you consider yourself to be friendly, outgoing and ready to meet whoever comes across your path? Well, if you need help in that area, November 21st, 2013 is your day to shine. This is officially called “Hello Day,” a chance to get out of your comfort zone and greet and meet new people!

You may be inclined to crawl into your shell on a day like “Hello Day,” and for some it is a foot problem that may cause the desire to hide. A fungal nail problem that makes nails discolored, brittle and crumbly can be unsightly and embarrassing. It can also be painful and really limit the styles of shoes you are able to wear.

Fortunately, if you have been hiding your feet because of a fungus problem, we have the treatment you need. It is a laser treatment that has been proven effective with many of our patients over the years. With this treatment, a medical laser is used to go over every area of your toenails to target and eradicate the underlying fungus. The procedure lasts between 20-30 minutes and during the treatment you may feel a warm or very minor burning sensation. Our patients describe little or no pain during the process. Afterwards you may feel some warmth or swelling around the nails that usually goes away within 24-72 hours. It is quick, effective and does not require you to take any time off of work and only limited time off from activity.

It may require multiple treatments to fully eradicate the fungus, but over time the laser therapy will allow for new growth of healthy, clear and beautiful toenails. It will be important between treatments to be proactive in avoiding areas and situations where you could re-infect your nails.
