Most adults have dealt with some form of foot ailment sometime in their lifetime, but prevention starts in childhood. Your child’s feet need to be properly cared for from day one. Kids need to maintain strong and healthy feet in order to prevent future problems. In order to protect the health of your child’s feet follow these helpful guidelines:
- Examine your child’s feet. You should inspect your child’s feet on a weekly basis for any cuts, bruises, growths, or abnormalities. Examinations can ensure that your child’s feet are growing properly and allow ailments to be treated as quickly as possible.
- Reduce the risk for infection. Kids get into everything and can easily pick up bacterial infections from swimming at the public pool or even just playing around in your backyard. Therefore, you should apply anti-bacterial cream and properly bandage any wounds in order to prevent bacterial infections.
- Purchase properly fitted footwear. One of the most important steps to preventing painful foot ailments is wearing properly fit shoes. Your child’s footwear should allow them enough room to wiggle their toes comfortably while fitting snug enough that their heel will not slip out the back.
